About Us
Metir plc is a UK-based analytical technology company that develops and commercialises advanced instruments and monitoring solutions for water and environmental testing. Through Modern Water and Microsaic Systems, the Group combines established water monitoring technologies with miniaturised mass spectrometry and an active Research and Development (R&D) programme.
As pressure on global water resources increases, driven by population growth, industrialisation and the impact of climate change on weather patterns and water availability, there is a growing need for better ways to monitor water quality and help protect water supplies.
Research and development is central to Metir’s strategy. The Group is investing in several R&D programmes to develop new analytical instruments, detection technologies and applications for water and environmental testing, building on the established technologies and intellectual property of both Modern Water and Microsaic Systems.
This includes R&D combining Modern Water’s established Microtox® bioluminescent bacteria technology for rapid quantitative toxicity testing with Microsaic’s miniaturised mass spectrometry and detection technologies, to detect toxic events and help identify the contaminants responsible.
The Tethys Purity Water Testing System is being developed to provide continuous monitoring of water supplies at key points, providing early warning of potentially toxic events and supporting rapid intervention to help protect water users.
After detecting a toxic event, the system is designed to move into analysis mode and deploy a range of analytical tests to help identify, or rule out, potential causes of contamination.
During normal operation, Microsaic’s miniaturised mass spectrometry technology is also being developed to enable routine monitoring for a wide range of analytes of interest, including PFAS and pesticides.
Metir’s monitoring software is being developed to provide real-time water safety data alongside routine testing for a broad range of contaminants, helping water operators build a more detailed understanding of water quality and identify potential risks more rapidly.
By bringing together continuous toxicity monitoring, targeted contaminant detection, miniaturised mass spectrometry and real-time data, Metir aims to develop a new approach to monitoring and protecting water supplies around the world.
